ELDERS - SESSION

Our Book of Order states:  “Ruling elders are so named not because they ‘lord it over’ the congregation (Matthew 20:25), but because they are chosen by the congregation to discern and measure its fidelity to the Word of God, and to strengthen and nurture its faith and life,”

We are served by a board of 11 ruling elders who serve rotating three-year terms.  This group is called the Session.  The ruling elders  on the Session are responsible for exercising leadership, government, spiritual discernment, discipline, and have responsibilities for the life of a congregation as well as the whole church, including ecumenical relationships.  The ruling elders, under the pastor’s leadership, are responsible for leading the six ministry teams of worship, inviting people/missions, youth, communications, education, and operations.

There is always a need for good leadership and members are encouraged to volunteer to serve as an Elder.  Each year three or four of the eleven elders finish their three-year term of service and the nominating committee seeks members to fill those leadership positions.

If interested in learning more about seving as an Elder, please call the church office at 574-583-5787 and ask to speak to the pastor or a representative of the nominating committee.
